FFP Masks

FFP masks, also known as dust masks, are a type of respirator that offers optimal protection against airborne particles such as dust, mist, and fumes.  These dust masks come in moulded and flat-fold versions and are classified into three levels of protection, FFP1, FFP2, and FFP3, based on their filtration efficiency, and conform to the EN149 standard.

FFP respirators do not offer protection against gases and vapours, if this is required, half masks or full face masks with appropriate filters must be used.

FFP Masks Protection Levels

• FFP1: Filters at least 80% of airborne particles, suitable for low-risk environments, blocking non-toxic dust, pollen, and mist.
• FFP2: Filters at least 94% of particles, protecting against harmful dust, aerosols, and liquid droplets, commonly used in healthcare and construction.
• FFP3: Filters at least 99% of particles, offering maximum protection against highly toxic substances, viruses, bacteria, and radioactive particles, used in hazardous settings.

Key Features and Marking

• Reusability:
  • NR (Non-Reusable): Designed for single-shift use (typically 8 hours) and then discarded.
  • R (Reusable): Can be used for more than one shift if cleaned according to manufacturer instructions.
• D (Dolomite Test): Indicates the mask has passed an optional clogging test, meaning it maintains lower breathing resistance for longer in very dusty environments.
• Exhalation Valves: A FFP mask includes a valve to reduce heat and moisture build-up inside the mask. Note that valved masks only protect the wearer and do not filter the air being exhaled
